Our story

Serving the Wanaka community with all engineering needs for more than 100 years.

Templeton Engineering in Albert Town, Wanaka, has long held a reputation for superior customer service and getting things done. Although it’s been 115 years since James Templeton first opened the doors in 1906, the same brand promise is kept today with the current Templeton Engineering team: delivering a high standard of work at a fair price.

It’s true that skilled workmanship and expertise has remained constant throughout the years but the key reason why Templeton Engineering is still Wanaka’s engineering “go-to” is simply because of our people.

At Templeton Engineering, our customers know that we are always happy to help with projects of any size – no matter how big or small – and they can always call in for a yarn with our team of engineers.

It’s this personal communication and reliable, honest service that keeps the Wanaka and wider Upper Clutha community coming back, decade after decade. Our customers are content in the knowledge that they will receive a high-quality job, on time, and as per the quote.

Engineering is a skill that’s inherent to both Matt and Garry. Hailing from engineering families, they harnessed their welding skills from a young age, pottering around the busy workshops owned by their fathers and grandfathers.

Today, Matt and Garry have more than 60 years’ combined engineering experience and they share their vast expertise with a team of qualified tradesmen in an environment that’s lively and energetic. It may seem an oxymoron for a business still located in the landmark heritage building on the riverbank in “old” Albert Town, but local enthusiasm for the historic brand, particularly with the introduction of Matt and Sarah Read in 2020, has never waned.

With Matt and Sarah taking over the company in 2021, they are focussed on guiding Templeton Engineering into the future, with many exciting opportunities on the horizon …
